おもしろいのは、ドイツ、スウェーデン、日本など、すでに生産性の高い国々では、在宅勤務が疑問視されていることだ。通信インフラが高度に整備されたこれらの国々で在宅勤務が普及しないのは一見不思議だが、でも彼らの長年の成功を支えているのはむしろ、都市や工場、オフィスビル/オフィス街、大企業といった社会的物理的インフラだ。在宅勤務は労働を個人化し分散化するので、彼らの繁栄に大きく貢献したトップダウンの指示系統が機能しにくい、とも感じられている。彼らがそう感じるのは、無理もないだろう。
